pimp here (my login is problematic, but that's another issue :P)
one of the fundamental flaws in your argument is the fact that it would be "difficult" for people to install and run this punkbuster software. but gosh't, considering how much of a mission it is just to get cs1.0 working, punkbuster is a walk in the park in comparison. there are a whole lot of patches and updates and blah blah's to run, many of which are enormous to download (80mb and 38mb), while at the same time the gunslinger map pack is another 20-something megs.
so i'm afraid your argument that it would be difficult to run is really just not good enough (as an argument). is there another reason you're not telling us?
further, i will personally write a full feature on a counterstrike website showing people how/where to install the thing, step by step. any newbie who requires help need only email me and i'll phone them and help them set it up. i'm sure that there are any number of cs players more than willing to help in this regard.

leaders agreed that punkbuster is a more than welcome solution to the constant cheating, and accusations of cheating that are prevalent on the servers.
i really believe that the installation of punkbuster on the cs servers will be of enormous benefit to the gaming community, it will make us all feel better about playing the game, and it will eliminate a lot of the bullshit that keeps us away from the game.
your concern for new players and their difficulties in getting started is really insulting to the old/well established players who are ALREADY paying (large amounts) to mweb for access. those gamers who are regulars here deserve your support far more than the newbies who are still going to join gayzone (oops, typo :P) - seriously though; the existing gamers here are the ones who keep this place alive and ticking over. i haven't spent a nite on a cs server without seeing the word "cheater" - or something related. i've also seen people blatantly cheating with invisible skins and such like, and it ruins the game.
i reckon you slap a poll on the front page, and see how many people want it. those that don't vote for it are obviously the cheaters.
lets look at the setup:
download a small file: run it
use it to connect
gee, that's hardly difficult.
what's even more pleasant is that clans can go and register their clan tags, so that wannabe's can't log on as "id10t[xxx]" and ruin the reputation of that clan by being an arsehole, and no one can be impersonated either. i've already registered NDC on punkbuster (last year already) in the hope that you will see the light gosh't, and INSTALL PUNKBUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you do, we'll let you sit behind any box on italy you want gosh't, and we promise not to give you a fright when we kill you :P
please, i beseech you, install punkbuster.
