this probably won't make a diff to you guys but because i'm on 56k but here goes...
I'm also from Durban and I used to get a ping of 260 +/- with lotsa spikes. One fine day my dad pulled his finger outta his ass and said I can get a seperate line and put R7 on it so we did, now I get a ping of about 140 +/- and it hardly spikes. (these pings are in CS)

With the R7 I dial JHB (011) 283-3000 and hardly loose my conn (ony when Windoze crashes)
