As many of you probably know already, Douglas Adams, known widely as the author of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy, died four days ago due to a heart attack. He'll be missed greatly. |

Just a short (and overdue :) note...
Firstly, our Weapons Factory Arena server (atlas.mweb.co.za:27961) has been upgraded to version 2.9. Required downloads:
Our Day of Defeat server (namib.mweb.co.za:27015) has also been upgraded, to beta 1.2, and you can grab either the full (~88MB) or upgrade (~41MB) version of the download.
Enjoy!

Troopers,
Dust off your jetpack. Tribes 2 is out and this one we'll definitely be supporting with a fast server. For your information, we still have a Tribes 1 server @ 'namib.mweb.co.za'. Regarding the R150 rip-offs available for Tribes 2. For the record, I've spoken with a trooper whose already ordered and received Tribes 2 from this source. He intends complaining to Sierra, having been very disappointed with the product. He expected it to be properly packed and boxed because it's marketed as the real thing, not warez. So, if you like your games pure, want to show off the box like a trophy, and don't want to pay some loser R150 for a R5 blank and the use of their CD copier, please buy it from us here.

Troopers,
We're now hosting an excellent Action Quake 2 site. For those of you who've only come onto the action multiplayer scene recently, AQ was where it all started. Basically, an 'action' multiplayer mod usually denotes no convenient health pickups. This means that when you die you have to sit out the round. Also, you get more realistic gameplay, which means that you can't do 50 ft. jumps, and you only get to use standard military weaponry. Ie. - no rocket launchers.
Many thanks to Brett Mostert, AKA Neon Knight[CR], for getting the site together. Combat veterans will remember the classic AQ war between M-Web and Iafrica, before the ISPs 'joined forces'. That was a 4 hour game to remember. From our archives, amongst some of the first M-Web AQ players were pHanTom; Rogue; Siberiyan; Kane; Radient; Vio Nectro; Carnage; Shakti; and Redeemer.
And lastly, to the trooper hanging out in the bottom of the pool with a handcannon,
"It's over, you can come out now" - :> (Tribes 2 is coming)

First off, we've put up a local ARC server. What's ARC, you ask? Let sPlatcAt tell you:
"It's a top down shooter thing, where u pilot a flying saucer and shoot the bejeesus out of everything with lasers, bouncing lasers, missiles and bombs. U can play deathmatch, CTF or a game where u change all the buttons to your teams colour. It's pretty awesome."
If that sounds fun, go here to register and grab the client.
Then, for Q3 players, we're testing out a new class-based CTF mod, Weapons Factory Arena. To play, you'll need to grab this (82MB), this (3MB) and this (3MB), and connect to atlas.mweb.co.za:27961 .
As always, all is highly appreciated.

Troopers,
The legend of Justice on the net continues to be supported by M-Web's game judges, whose sole purpose is to monitor the corridors of cyberspace for cheat codes and socially irresponsible players. But judges themselves are not above the law, and more than one judge has been given the regulation shotgun with 7 shells and dismissed into the radiation desert. The good news? Well, we can safely assume that the judges are still human-:>
Now that Counterstrike 1.1 has been released and successfully absorbed by the community, isn't it time NDC and KK have their long awaited rematch?
Regarding the evergreen question of Counterstrike cheating, only one thing is clear. We need more heroes and less villains.
But I guess the same goes for real life.

All the CounterStrike servers have been updated to Version 1.1, you will need to upgrade your Half-Life and CounterStrike versions to be able to play.
If you have the the standard version of Half-Life and are running CounterStrike as a mod (as most of you are) then you need:
- Half-Life 1104 to 1106 Upgrade
- Half-Life CounterStrike 1.0 to 1.1 Upgrade
Alternatively, if you are running the CS 1.0 Retail version (without HL), then you need:
- CounterStrike Retail 1.0 to 1.1 Upgrade

The reason for the hectic packetloss and staccato ping on our CT servers is because we've relocated the games servers to N1 City and at this mo we're using an extra hop between tygerberg and N1 City, which has been giving us some problems. However, this hop is due to be removed on Friday the 9th when you'll have one less hop and our mega bandwwidth will be restored. This is a temporary measure, and we apologise for any inconvenience, so give us until the 12th before you start complaining again, ok? -:>
TFC beat OBC on Saturday in a friendly on Half-Life Counterstrike. Well done guys!
Meantime back at Moscow Crater on Titan, the KK survivors are being reprogrammed to adapt to NDC's tactics by Sunday night @ 9.00PM, when the battle between these two unbeaten teams will continue. |
